Do you go to sleep expecting a dream? Like legit looking forward to a dream. Something that is utopian in the sense that it will draw all your attention away and set you rivetted to that augmented sleep induced reality? If yes, then I would like to congratulate you. If no, I would like to urge you, somewhat like RN Tagore did waaaaaay back to do! Dream! It is extremely important. It is more important for you to be dreaming about stuff than watching that new Rick and Morty episode that just got out. It is. You want to know why? Well Lemme Elucidate.

I believe that when we dream, we are talking to our subconscious. How else do you think you are going to be able to talk to yourself in a way where your subconscious can be very articulate. Where It can talk to you in details about what it feels you should or shouldn’t be doing? You realise how dreams are so vivid, how a random car in your dream is a certain colour and how that colour is the same one that you saw someplace in reality and thought to yourself “Hmm, That’s dope!”. We often don’t outrightly accept things because we fear judgement from someone even as close as our parents. And this is on such a microscopic level that we don’t even realise what we are doing. In addition to that, years of judgement, years of people just being rude to you, questioning and second guessing you has made you a little, just a tad bit too…. erm…cynical of yourself. This again is so microscopic that our conscious brain just ends up ignoring it and considers all of this as just mental white noise. In such a predicament, your safest bet is to dream and get to know you….to acknowledge them and to be absolutely honest with yourself while deciphering them.

Now that was the easy and more reasonable part. Now I want to talk about the tougher and somewhat metaphorical angle to me urging you to dream and to not dream in binary. The simple meaning of that is this: I don’t want you to be thinking of reality when talking to your subconscious. For your subconscious to be very honest with you it needs a safe space. Would you talk to someone who doesn’t hear to what you want to hear and rather keeps interrupting and remind you your reality? No right?! Similarly, you got to let it lose. You got to let it talk to you as if its just you too in the room, with a joint lit and lo-fi playing in the bg. It has big vivid plans for you, but It can’t even tell you of them, let alone convince you of the same. Don't be an ass to yourself. Give yourself a chance. There is no harm in dreaming is there. And i am sure there are people who believe they are giving themselves enough space to dream. But are you really? Its not like your subconscious will present an outlandish idea on a platter and you will end up rejecting it. It become like a second nature of the brain to not even concoct things that seem or are outlandish. And it is not a small exercise, getting rid of this habit. I want you taking real actions to change it. I don't care if its positive affirmations or watching outlandish fiction or even just getting high,- your monkey, your circus. You decide that for yourself. The only thing unacceptable and unfathomable to you should be a situation where your dreams, are non existent. And please don't think if you're not dreaming a particular night, its wrong. It can be a daydream, It can be a subtle fantasy, It can be anyway your subconscious is trying to reach you. Hear it. Acknowledge it. Talk Back. Everyone's subconscious talks to them differently. Know its language. And actively take out time for it.

The beauty of dreaming is that it can be as specific as you want. It can be as weird as you want. You don’t need articulation. And trust me, as good as language is at breaking barriers to communication, it is a pretty big one when it comes to delivering something in its exactness. For example, I can tell you all I want about the kind of car I want in a mix of different languages, but If I can show you the thing, you’d observe and notice even the little nuances. And trust me, our subconscious sucks at talking. Otherwise, it would be the so-called voice a few hear in their head. So give it space, don’t interrupt it with the reality and take time out to talk to it. And let it lead the conversation. Happy Talking.
